Act now or face climate disaster: Garnaut

Climate change is real and urgent, and Australia must have emissions trading in place in 2010 or face a catastrophe.

That's the message from the nation's top climate change adviser Ross Garnaut, who is sticking to his guns on the need for drastic action to counter global warming.

Tough-talking Professor Garnaut brooked no talk of delays or cop-outs as he launched his draft report today.

"Climate change is a diabolical policy problem," he told the National Press Club.

He said it would be "terribly hard" to bring in emissions trading in two years' time - but it was possible. Read more.
