Just a week to go until this important forum!

The idea of the Transition Towns 'movement' is for communities to come together to plan and prepare for the inevitable impacts of resource depletion, unchecked climate change and global economic contraction. The course of these three global evolutions will not be smooth and there will be many "shocks" along the way.

All of these impacts with be ultimately felt locally, wherever we live, and they will all be primarily economic in nature  - scarcity, higher costs of essentials, loss of jobs and livelihoods and perhaps higher taxes and special disaster levies (for example the Queensland flood levy).

The necessity to build the strength of our own more local and regional economies becomes obvious in this analysis. This forum focuses on how we go about doing that. Everyone serious about Transition or already involved in local commerce has a stake in the future local economy and should consider being there.

The forum's keynote speaker is Michael Shuman, an American economist and attorney who has spent most of his working life involved in regional economic development work, and who has a great number of real-life case studies to relate to his audience. His experiences over 20 years of this work have armed him with a great knowledge of what works and what does not work; knowledge that he will share in his presentation.

The three other  main platform speakers at the forum represent key stakeholder groups in our local economies - the local entrepreneur, the investors and potential investors and the community-based banker.
