We haven't a hope of saving the world with a whimper

If the planet is to be saved it will have to start at the bottom, with people deciding to change the way they live. People power, we can only hope, will embolden the Government to do the right thing...

It's time to get over big government. I know most Australians did so aeons ago but a few hold-outs, such as myself, kept the faith.

It seemed only governments could change the way we live for the better. Tax cigarettes as luxuries and smoking levels plummet; pass a law to make wearing seatbelts compulsory and road fatalities plunge. Entreaties, education campaigns and local action are all very nice, but in the end major change comes through government action, laws and taxes. That has been our creed.

The Government's wimpish response to the crisis of climate change has rocked the faith of true believers. We can't wait any longer for government to provide leadership, the price signals and incentives to push us towards a simpler life. Read more.
