Welcome to Transition Bondi

Transition Bondi is a proactive sustainability group that believes the future is awesome!

Our vision is for a resilient and vibrant community in Bondi, with a relocalised village atmosphere and sustainable lifestyle based on the principles of abundance. We screen documentary films, host community garden digs, facilitate re-skilling workshops, put on special events, and enjoy feasting on organic harvests. Join us at one of our events to meet like-minded people in a friendly and open group.

Transition Bondi is auspiced by Transition Sydney - www.transitionsydney.org.au.

Our Projects

Movie night with a yummy local organic dinner
Join us for a dinner prepared with local organic ingredients and shared together with a guest speaker, workshop or life-changing film. Films we have screened in the past include “Dirt! The Movie”, “Gasland”, “Vanishing of the Bees” and “The Future of Food”.
Where: Ruby’s Cafe at the Chapel by the Sea, 95 Roscoe Street, Bondi Beach.
When: Wednesday nights. Meal preparation starts at 6pm, and the meal and activity go from 6:30pm - 9:30 pm.

241 Bondi Road Community Garden
We meet every Saturday to “build our community through gardening”. We are re-introducing the culture of producing our own food sustainably and ethically, which ensures our local food security. Some of the fun stuff we do includes making compost, worm-farming, raising seedlings and planting fruit trees and vegetables. We are also turning the green waste from local shops and cafes into precious compost and are expanding our plans for food production to the streets (“Eat of the Streets” program).
Where: 241 Bondi Road, Bondi Beach (near Boonara Avenue)
When: Saturdays 10am - 12pm

Food Connect Organic food distribution
Transition Bondi is a "City Cousin" collection point for Food Connect. This social enterprise offers affordable ethical produce from local organic / spray free farmers. Fruit and vegie boxes can be pre-ordered at http://sydney.foodconnect.com.au and collected at our Wednesday night events (see above).

Workshops
Past workshops have included installing an Aquaponics system (partly funded by Waverley Council), a productive honey bee hive, and the "Eat of the Streets Project". Look out for future workshops in our re-skilling program which forms part of our Community Sustainability Plan - the  "Bondi Urban Resilience Project" (BURP).

Working Group Meetups
We invite anyone who has the passion and time to participate in Transition Bondi at a deeper level for this rich and rewarding experience.
Where: Bondi Road, Bondi Beach (contact admin for current location)
When: Friday 11am - 1pm

About Transition Towns

The Transition Towns idea was born in Totnes, England, in the late 90’s, out of a Permaculture design course taught by Rob Hopkins.
Transition Towns is a global movement building resilient, sustainable, vibrant and happy communities. It is a community based response to the future challenges of climate change and peak oil. For more information on Transition Towns, go to www.transitionnetwork.org.

Hi all, I'm looking forward

Submitted by John Paul Posada (not verified) on Thu, 12/04/2012 - 11:41.

Hi all, I'm looking forward to joining the group. If all goes well I'll meet up with you this coming Saturday.

In the mean time I've started a collection of locations on Google maps pointing out some community gardens, composts and veggie patches:

Feel free to contact me if you'd like to collaborate on the building of this map.
